Paper Crane

Paper Crane cocktail icon

Flavor Profile: Delicate, citrusy, floral, bright

The Paper Crane is an original creation inspired by Japanese flavors and origami aesthetics. Built on a base of shochu, it pairs beautifully with yellow Chartreuse, yuzu liqueur, and Preserve liqueur — a delicate mix that evokes citrus blossoms, mountain herbs, and floral elegance.

This equal parts cocktail is light on its feet and full of nuance. The name is a nod to both the Paper Plane and the Japanese art of the fold. Garnish with a paper crane or citrus peel folded in origami fashion if you’re feeling fancy.

Paper Crane

A delicate and Japanese-inspired equal-parts cocktail, the Paper Crane builds on the Last Word template but ventures in a refreshing new direction. Featuring Tsunami Shochu, Yellow Chartreuse, yuzu liqueur, and Preserve Liqueur, it’s a bright, citrusy, floral twist with deep cultural flair and modern elegance.

Ingredients

  • 0.75 oz Tsunami Shochu Holystone Distilling
  • 0.75 oz Yellow Chartreuse
  • 0.75 oz Yuzu Liqueur
  • 0.75 oz Preserve Liqueur Alpine Distilling

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice.
  • Shake until well chilled.
  • Fine strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  • Garnish with a paper crane.

Notes

Inspired by the Professor of Logic by @cocktails_for_breakfast, this variation leans fully into Japanese ingredients, replacing gin with shochu and citrus with yuzu.
Preserve Liqueur contributes soft sweetness and floral depth — elderflower liqueur can be used as a substitute. A contemplative, fragrant riff on the Last Word, perfect for quiet moments or thoughtful toasts.
