Between the Sheets

A classic equal-parts cocktail dating back to the 1920s, *Between the Sheets* is a bold, citrusy riff on the Sidecar, said to have been created by Harry MacElhone of Harry’s New York Bar in Paris. It dials up the complexity by blending cognac, rum, orange liqueur, and fresh lemon juice — no sugar rim required. This version doubles down on the cognac base by using both Pierre Ferrand Cognac and their dry curaçao. Deep, elegant, and deceptively easy to sip.

Ingredients

  • 0.75 oz Cognac
  • 0.75 oz Dry Curaçao
  • 0.75 oz Light Rum
  • 0.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice.
  • Shake until well chilled.
  • Fine strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  • Garnish with a lemon peel.

Notes

Originally created in the 1920s as an offshoot of the Sidecar.
This version uses a cognac-based curaçao for a richer profile.
Great as an aperitif or a bold nightcap.
